Pre-Bridal Beauty Timeline: A Month-by-Month Plan for Skin, Hair and Nails

Brides often book their makeup artist months in advance but leave skin and hair preparation until the last two weeks. By then, it is too late for treatments that need time, like laser hair reduction or fixing damaged hair, and too risky to try anything new. Below is the timeline we follow with brides at our studio. It also works well for grooms and anyone with a big event coming up. If your wedding is sooner, start from the stage you are at and skip anything that is no longer safe.

6 Months Before: Start Anything That Needs Time

  • Laser hair reduction: a full course needs six to eight sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, so this is the latest sensible time to begin. Plan your last session at least two weeks before the wedding.
  • Dermatologist visit: if you have acne, pigmentation, dark circles or a skin condition, see a dermatologist now. Prescription treatments take months to work and may need to stop before the wedding.
  • Hair health: if your hair is damaged, start regular trims and conditioning treatments now. Book a consultation if you are thinking about a big colour change.
  • Lifestyle: start drinking enough water, sleeping seven to eight hours and eating more vegetables, protein and fruit. Your skin and hair will show it months later.

3 to 4 Months Before: Build a Routine

  • Book your bridal makeup artist and hair stylist if you have not already, especially for wedding-season dates.
  • Begin monthly facials suited to your skin type. This lets you see how your skin reacts to each treatment while there is still plenty of time.
  • Set a simple daily skin routine: gentle cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen in the morning, and cleansing and moisturising at night.
  • If you want colour or highlights, do your first session now so there is time to adjust the shade.
  • Start a monthly hair spa if your hair is dry or frizzy.

2 Months Before: Treatments That Need Settling Time

  • Keratin or smoothing, if you want one, should be done around now so the hair settles and you learn how to style it. Read our keratin vs smoothing comparison first.
  • Microblading or powder brows need about four to six weeks to heal plus a touch-up, so this is the last safe window.
  • Begin regular manicures and pedicures to improve the condition of your nails and cuticles.
  • Try on your jewellery and outfit and share photos with your makeup artist.

4 to 6 Weeks Before: Trials

  • Makeup and hair trial: wear a top in your outfit colour, bring photos of your jewellery and take pictures in daylight and with flash. Read our bridal makeup trends guide for ideas.
  • Final hair colour: do your last full colour or highlight session three to four weeks before the wedding, so it looks fresh but has time to settle.
  • Body polishing or exfoliating treatments can begin, spaced a couple of weeks apart.
  • Stop experimenting with new skincare products. Stick with what your skin already likes.

2 Weeks Before: No Surprises

  • Last laser session, if you have been doing a course.
  • Final haircut or trim, so it has a week or two to fall naturally.
  • No new facials, peels or skin treatments from now on, apart from what you have already tried.
  • Groom your brows with your regular threader or artist, so any redness has time to settle.
  • Avoid tanning and strong sun.

1 Week Before: Final Pre-Bridal Treatments

  • Your final facial should be five to seven days before the wedding. Never do a facial the day before.
  • Full-body waxing, preferably three to five days before.
  • Body polishing and a relaxing massage if you want them.
  • Root touch-up for coloured hair, if needed.
  • Confirm timings with your makeup artist, hair stylist and mehndi artist.

2 to 3 Days Before

  • Manicure and pedicure, ideally before mehndi so the colour is not affected.
  • Mehndi one to two days before the wedding. Avoid washing the area for a few hours after removing the paste so the colour deepens.
  • Final eyebrow and upper-lip threading.
  • Pack an emergency kit: blotting papers, safety pins, lip colour, compact powder, tissues and any medicines you take.

The Night Before and the Wedding Day

Keep it simple. Cleanse, moisturise and go to bed early. Avoid alcohol, very salty food and anything new. On the day, eat a proper breakfast, drink water and arrive for makeup with clean, moisturised skin and clean, dry hair, unless your stylist has asked for something different.

Above all, do not try new products, home remedies or treatments in the final week. Most last-minute skin emergencies we see come from a new face pack or a facial done too close to the wedding.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it too late to start laser hair reduction three months before my wedding?

You can still start, and you will see a good reduction from three or four sessions, but you will not complete the full course before the wedding. Plan your last pre-wedding session at least two weeks before the date.

When should my last facial be before the wedding?

Five to seven days before. This gives any redness or small breakouts time to settle.

Should grooms follow a pre-wedding routine too?

Yes. A haircut one to two weeks before, a beard shape-up a few days before, a couple of clean-up facials and a manicure make a big difference in photos.
